One Year On…The Front

One year on I thought it’d be nice to take stock of some of the work done. The front elevation has seen a lot of improvement, both structural and visible.

Initial Problems:

  • Cement render patch on the bottom metre or so of front and side wall. Futher render repairs above this on corner of building seem to be failing, probably letting water in.  Unlike lime render, cement render doesn’t breathe so moisture can get trapped behind it.
  • Elevated flower bed abutting the wall, another potential source of damp.
  • Windows neglected

Work done to date:

  • Flowerbed removed and ground level lowered.
  • Sub-floor vents installed.
  • French drain installed.
  • Cement render removed, wall dried and lime render re-applied and painted with breathable silicate paint.
  • Windows repaired, draft proofed and painted.
