{"id":123,"date":"2015-02-23T14:30:06","date_gmt":"2015-02-23T14:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/demo.edge-themes.com\/vigor5\/?page_id=123"},"modified":"2024-02-18T20:42:21","modified_gmt":"2024-02-18T20:42:21","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jamesosmond.co.uk\/doublehouse\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;grid&#8221; oblique_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; triangle_shape=&#8221;no&#8221; padding_top=&#8221;63&#8243; css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; box_shadow_on_row=&#8221;no&#8221;][vc_column][vc_separator type=&#8221;transparent&#8221; up=&#8221;18&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3>Hello&#8230;<\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=&#8221;transparent&#8221; up=&#8221;18&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5>My name is James Osmond and this blog is all about the repair and restoration of my house, a 300 year old listed building in south Bristol.<\/h5>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=&#8221;transparent&#8221; up=&#8221;18&#8243;][vc_column_text]Until 2016, I was quite happy enough juggling my career as a professional <span class=\"theme-text-color-4-2\"><u><a class=\"wz-link\" href=\"http:\/\/jamesosmond.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-attached-link=\"{&quot;type&quot;:&quot;Web&quot;,&quot;url&quot;:&quot;http:\/\/www.jamesosmond.co.uk\/index.html&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;http:\/\/www.jamesosmond.co.uk\/index.html&quot;,&quot;target&quot;:&quot;_blank&quot;}\">landscape photographer<\/a><\/u><\/span> with the demands of being the principal carer for my three children.\u00a0 In January of that year though, my wife noticed an old house down the road being put up for auction and in a pretty rapid turn of events, we bought it and moved in.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t have any qualifications in the building trade, but I am probably what most people would describe as a \u2018practical person\u2019.\u00a0 I come from a family of engineers and the like, and though my own career has wandered off into the creative industries, I think a project like this is essentially a creative process built on an understanding of engineering principles.\u00a0 Perhaps that is why it appeals to me so much.<\/p>\n<p>Repairing and restoring an historic building is a time consuming process requiring a huge physical, emotional and financial investment.\u00a0 There is so much to learn and I\u2019m surprised at how much I want to learn.\u00a0 I\u2019ve only ever had a superficial appreciation for the aesthetic of historic buildings yet almost overnight, I have become what I can only describe as a \u2018Lime Bore\u2019. I find myself looking closely at roofing details and visiting National Trust properties to see how they&#8217;ve mended a section of floor.\u00a0 I can now spot a Yorkshire Sash window a mile off.
