Balloons taking off from Ashton Court are regularly seen flying over the garden.

The greenhouse border with Rosa 'Little Rambler' covering the greenhouse, Digitalis purpurea, Phlomis russeliana and Stachys byzantina providing strong verticals, and a Philadelphus coronarius growing over the wall from the neighboring garden producing a sweet scent.

Phlomis russeliana and Stachys byzantina provide shapely verticals in the borders and balance the purple tones of Nepeta and Lavender.

View towards the woodshed where Rosa 'Generous Gardener' grows around the door. The wall was restored using materials saved on site. The lawn/meadow is not mowed until August allowing oxeye daisies to flower and seed, whilst Salvia 'Cerro Potosi' and Nepeta 'Six Hills Giant' grow through one another in the raised border.

Double House

Double House is a listed period cottage in Bristol with a contemporary kitchen extension and a small cottage style garden full of pollinator friendly planting. Dating from 1730, the house was once part of the wider Ashton Court Estate. The owners bought it at auction in 2016 in a sorry state, and over the next five years carried out a sympathetic restoration using traditional skills and materials, saving and repairing as much as possible. The garden was built by the owners on a shoestring budget, reusing saved materials from the restoration, and furnished with restored cast iron benches and tables. The smaller rear garden was designed for sitting amongst the plants whilst the larger front garden was more child friendly, with play equipment incorporated into a large, mature hedge for more discretion and more fun! Planting was mostly 9cm pot perennials from the local garden centre and seed-raised plants, with a selection of bare-root trees and roses here and there for a bit of impact.
