Doynton Rectory, September

The Old Rectory is a formal country garden and Georgian rectory in South Gloucestershire, restored by the owners over a period of 12 years.  Garden designer Iain MacDonald worked with the owners on the garden, which consists of approximately 2 acres of walled garden as part of a wider 15 acre estate.  It is a garden with a strong structure of pleached hornbeams and an elegant still water ‘canal’ feature. There are rose arches, sculptures and one of the finest tree houses you are ever likely to see.  The estate manager is currently trialing the use of Lonicera nitida to replace box hedging that had to be removed due to blight.

This set captures the garden at the very end of summer with autumn just moving in. Rose hips are ripening, Japanese Anemone is at its peak, and the occasional leaf has already dropped.
